01:45AM EDT - We are live from ASUS' press conference at Computex 2017. As usual, the company will announce a number of new products that it will start to sell in the coming months and quarters. Products announced by ASUS usually represent the industry's trends, so if you want to take a glimpse at the near future of personal computing, join in

02:00AM EDT - Nice name of the event, by the way.

02:01AM EDT - Welcome, Jonney Shih, chairman of ASUS

02:02AM EDT - Johnney Shih, chaiman of ASUS, enters the scene.

02:03AM EDT - He reminds us of ASUS accomplishments in the past. For example, the Transformer opened doors to 2-in-1s.

02:03AM EDT - So, ASUS announces the ZenBook Flip S - world's thinnest convertible

02:04AM EDT - Looks thin indeed. As always, made of metal.

02:04AM EDT - It is just 10.9 mm thick, weighs 1.1 kilograms.

02:05AM EDT - It features ASUS' new ErgoLift 360-degree hinge. Made of steel alloy, can sustain 20,000 cycles.

02:06AM EDT - The convertible features a 13.3" 4K display.

02:06AM EDT - Supports all the latest Windows 10 features - Ink, Cortana, Modern Standby, etc.

02:07AM EDT - Fingerprint reader is on the edge of the display.

02:08AM EDT - Obviously, it has a very fast resume time thanks to Modern Standby.

02:09AM EDT - The ZenBook Flip S is based on Intel Core i7 with up to 3.5 GHz frequency. It also has 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD. Neat.

02:09AM EDT - The ZenBook Flip S is based on Intel Core i7 with up to 3.5 GHz frequency. It also has 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD. Neat.

02:09AM EDT - Battery capacity is 39 Wh, it lasts for 11.5 hours.

02:10AM EDT - Like other premium ZenBooks, it has an audio-sub-system co-developed with Harman.

02:11AM EDT - Now talking about 14"-class laptops.

02:11AM EDT - Now talking about 14"-class laptops.

02:12AM EDT - Apparently, announcing the all new 14" ASUS ZenBook 3 Deluxe.

02:12AM EDT - So, it is 12.9 mm thick and weighs 1.1 kilograms.

02:13AM EDT - Since this is a Deluxe, it is not only made of metal, but also comes with some gold elements.

02:14AM EDT - In addition, the ZenBook 3 Deluxe uses Corning Gorilla Glass 5 to protect the display.

02:15AM EDT - So, it has a Core i7 CPU, 16 GB of DDR4-2133 and up to 1TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD.

02:16AM EDT - As usual, Deluxe is not only about internals, but also about design. Besides, just like its predecessor, it has powerful speakers with Harman badge.

02:17AM EDT - Up next is... thye all new ASUS ZenBook Pro.

02:17AM EDT - So, it is beautiful and has all the business features you might need.

02:18AM EDT - Now, this one has a more powerful Core i7 H-series CPU, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, up to 16 GB of DDR4-2400, up to 1 TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD and two TB3 ports.

02:19AM EDT - So, it is 18.9 mm thick and weighs 1.8 kilograms.

02:19AM EDT - It has a 15.6" 4K display.

02:20AM EDT - Due to the footprint, ASUS has managed to fit in a 79 Wh battery for a really long battery life.

02:22AM EDT - So, ASUS is announcing the new VivoBook S - a thin laptop that promises to be affordable too.

02:23AM EDT - "Empowered luxury for everyone to enjoy," - as Mr. Shih puts it.

02:24AM EDT - So, aluminum, 17.9 mm thick, weighs 1.5 kilograms.

02:25AM EDT - The display has 7.8 mm bezels, but no word about resolution.

02:25AM EDT - It has a Core i7, a GeForce 940 MX, hybrid storage - SSD + HDD, etc.

02:26AM EDT - Nice to have a discrete GPU in an affordable laptop, but it will be interesting to see the exact benchmark numbers.

02:27AM EDT - Now, ASUS is announcing the VivoBook Pro - affordable business laptop series.

02:27AM EDT - This one has a Core i7 H CPU, GeForce GTX 1050, 16 GB of RAM, etc.

02:29AM EDT - Display resolution is 4K, in line with higher-end machines with ASUS.

02:29AM EDT - Performance requires space: the VivoBook Pro weighs 2.2 kilograms.

02:30AM EDT - Now, Gregory Bryan - head of Intel Client Computing, enters the scene.

02:31AM EDT - Talking how Intel and ASUS manage to innovate PCs together by essentially making them thinner, lighter, faster, etc.

02:32AM EDT - ASUS is among the very early adopters of almost all Intel's technologies.

02:33AM EDT - It is interesting that while the chairman of ASUS called the new Vivo-series laptops affordable luxury, he never disclosed prices.

02:34AM EDT - Now he is talking prices. ZenBook 3 Deluxe will cost $1199.

02:34AM EDT - ZenBook Pro will start at $1299.

02:35AM EDT - The ZenBook Flip S will cost starting from $1099.

02:35AM EDT - ASUS VivoBook Pro will start at $799.

02:36AM EDT - The VivoBook S will cost $499 and upwards. Obviously, the entry-level model will not feature a Core i7 CPU, but still.

02:38AM EDT - So, ASUS has announced a boatload of interesting products. Time to wrap up and it's time for live demos for ASUS and picture-taking for us.

02:38AM EDT - See you at the edge of beyond.

    6-8 cores Ryzen laptop?

Guess it's time for some new phones , a bunch of hugely overpriced wimpy(either dual cores or Atom based) convertibles and a few tabs that look like photo frames from the 90s. Some VR wouldn't hurt but Asus is extra boring nowadays.

Did Asus ever launched that robot from last year's event?
  • WorldWithoutMadness - Monday, May 29, 2017 - link

Up to 4 cores only for this year.

Laptops today are such tragic garbage and it's mostly because of Intel and how much they charge for crappy dual cores.
Just a few years ago one could buy a decent quad core laptop at 350$, AMD's Raven Ridge can't come soon enough.

I totally agree. Since Intel forcing this 2 core 4 threads i3-i7U lineup with the garbage GPU (I don't event want to use that 3 letter). Earlier when AMD was much more competitive, the laptos were much much better. Even my company laptop with an SSD is a piece of sh!t...
