Also, not sure how the mobo itself enabled NVMe support -- isnt that related to the chipset, the drive itself, and drivers? SO like ANY x99 board should be able to do the same with the right SSD and drivers?
Yep, from what I've seen most desktop motherboards with UEFI support have been able to boot NVMe drives with compatible drivers. Sometimes it works out of the box but usually you just have to change a setting or two or manually enter boot devices but nothing major.
No video ports on the motherboard (HDMI, VGA, DVI, DisplayPort). Are the USB3.1 taking their place? If so that's a rather dramatic change-over. I'm glad the transition is happening so fast if so, but kinda shocked as well.
This is x99 there are no video outputs on it, since haswell-e and ep don't have onboard graphics. Your thinking about haswell, which has onboard graphics. Enthusiast platorm never had it, since the Intel X38 chipset.

Because 7 segment displays aren't durable enough to meet the TUF standards. That's my guess.shadarlo - Tuesday, March 17, 2015 - link

what is the signifacne of the "first board with NVME support" quote?unless i missed something crucial, didn't MSI announce that a bios update had enabled NVME support on all their X99 boards?
are they really only saying that this asus board is the first to [[release]]] with NVME out the box?

This will be made clear soon. :)R3MF - Tuesday, March 17, 2015 - link

"USB 3.1 Type-A" is just USB 3.0 so it isn't exactly a new feature.Rajinder Gill - Tuesday, March 17, 2015 - link
USB 3.1 is USB 3.1 :)willis936 - Tuesday, March 24, 2015 - link
Sweet mother of gimmicks. I tell you what isn't BS though: that NVMe support. Based.
