I know it's cool to be anti-RGB, but I think it can be done well. The trick is getting all the different devices coordinate. Anything that helps you achieve the custom look you want for your build... why not?
In this case, there's a serious concern. LEDs produce heat. There's at least one rainbow LED-spangled flash drive that gets so much heat from them that it has been known to overheat and lock up in use.
That’s the HyperX one team has sever RGB SSDs that are very cool. This was mentioned when they were looking at the Hyper X drive that was so hot I don’t remember if it was Jayz2¢ or Paul’s Hardware that did the video on it
Unfortunately the web server the PDF's on also doesn't seem to indicate its type in a way Firefox recognizes or accepts (but it *is* a PDF). But there's no indication it actually has a display, just LED bar(s) combined with a mirror/reflection effect across the SSD.
Thankfully it uses a separate "ADD" motherboard connection or it might start impinging on bandwidth...
The important question is how addressable is it exactly? I see this as a neat addition to a custom rig if it's relatively simple to get it to display custom images or short animations like a lot of OLED panels on high end motherboards have allowed recently

Paul's hardware sounds right. The whole thing was as hilarious as it was embarrassing.doggface - Monday, September 2, 2019 - link
It was jaystwocents.I think the video was called "you will never guess why this machine won't boot" or something similar and clickbaity.
Requiring a 120mm fan on your sata SSD to get windows to boot is pretty silly.

So what's the resolution and refresh rate of this SSD? :)nathanddrews - Friday, August 30, 2019 - link
768p 47Hz just to please no one.sheh - Saturday, August 31, 2019 - link
768p is pretty high DPI here, so that's good. But I'll wait for 120/144Hz.

Good question. The patent doesn't even come up on Taiwan's search engine: https://twpat.tipo.gov.tw/Unfortunately the web server the PDF's on also doesn't seem to indicate its type in a way Firefox recognizes or accepts (but it *is* a PDF).
