    Thunderbolt 2.Nah
  • Flunk - Friday, July 22, 2016 - link

The highest transfer rates listed are 480 MB/s, that doesn't require Thunderbolt 3.

Not for itself, but using it as a passthrough dock for other devices might make it meaningful.

External storage + raid = are they serious?
  • BrokenCrayons - Friday, July 22, 2016 - link

No, the product announcement was done entirely in jest in order to cause people to react exactly as you did. G-Tech is trolling you in particular.

Ehhh, you do realize the vast majority of raid is done in external enclosures right? They just use SAS. But with the speeds available to USB3 let alone USB3.1 or Thunderbolt 2/3, why not?

In the case of the 4, 6 and 8TB single-drive models, there's a $200 premium for having Thunderbolt ports, but no increase in transfer rate.

    I think I'll stick with USB :)

Good plan. I'll stick with USB 3 and Probox + WD Red drives for higher capacity at lower prices than are offered here.

G-tech have the most laughable overpriced products around. They make things for mac owners desperate to use their thunderbolt ports. I guess if you want to daisy chain things there could be some use...

Their drives have the lowest fail rates on the market. They are far ahead of WD, Seagate and the likes.
  • JHBoricua - Sunday, July 24, 2016 - link

@WinterCharm, How is WD far ahead of itself?
  • Michael Bay - Monday, July 25, 2016 - link

    Applehead makebelieve.
  • WithoutWeakness - Monday, July 25, 2016 - link

This is a WD-owned company using WD drives in their enclosures. How exactly are they "far ahead of WD"? They ARE WD.

This is a promoted article isn't it?
  • HideOut - Saturday, July 23, 2016 - link

TB is beyond overpriced. Only mac idiots pay it. But why the hell isnt it USB 3.1? A new 1500$ product for external storage based upon 7+ year old tech? win.
  • willgart - Sunday, July 24, 2016 - link

well... its better to get 2 G-Drive with USB at 10TB than a single G-Drive TB2 at 20TB.
I dont see the added value of the thunderbolt 2 here, except a higher price.
